Federal District Judge Rejects Puig Plea Agreement “The court never accepted the agreement”…Trial jury selection to begin next January

There is a cautiously raised possibility that Yasiel Puig, 32, will be acquitted.

Puig is accused of lying to federal agents in connection with an investigation into illegal sportsbooks. Federal prosecutors in California alleged last November that Puig misrepresented during the investigation that he had made dozens of illegal wagers in 2019.

In response, Puig agreed to plead guilty to lying to federal agents. But he pleaded not guilty a few weeks later.

Prosecutors then filed a superseding indictment that added obstruction charges.

The trial against Puig has been postponed several times and is expected to get underway next January, beginning with jury selection.

Federal District Court Judge Dooley Gee recently informed prosecutors that the guilty plea to false statements agreed to with Puig could not be used as evidence at trial.

“Since the agreement was never accepted by the court, the court finds its provisions unenforceable and on this basis rejects the prosecution’s application,” Judge Zi wrote, according to Messenger.

In response, Puig’s agent, Lisette Carnet, told the Messenger that Puig was treated unfairly by federal agents.

“We have the evidence we need to prove Yassiel’s innocence,” Carnet said. This case is about what we believe to be falsehoods in his witness testimony. We are very much looking forward to his court appearance. (At that time) his full story will be told and the world will be able to see the truth.” 먹튀검증

Puig hit 132 home runs in seven seasons in the Major Leagues. After spending the 2022 season in South Korea, he plans to play for Estrellas de Oriente in the Dominican Winter League later this year.
