‘I’m fine with Son Heung-min as new partner’ Tottenham target Sociedad for ’43 billion MF’
Tottenham Hotspur, who are unbeaten in 10 games this season, are targeting Real Sociedad midfielder Bryce Mendes.
Spanish outlet Pichajes reported on Tuesday (July 30) that “Tottenham are looking for a new player to strengthen their midfield. Tottenham’s main target is Sociedad’s Mendes,” reported Pichajes.
Mendes came up through the youth ranks of Spanish side Celta Vigo. He can play as both an attacking midfielder and a right-sided midfielder. He also has the versatility to play as a central midfielder. His accurate kicks and excellent playmaking ability are his biggest strengths.
Mendes started to get his chance in the 2017/18 season. He scored one goal and one assist in 24 official games that season. After the season, Mendes signed a professional contract with Celta Vigo. In 2018/19, his first season as a regular first-team player, he took his game to the next level with six goals and eight assists in 32 games.
Mendes then expanded his presence at Celta Vigo, scoring one goal and three assists in 34 games in 2019/20 and nine goals in 36 games in 2020/21. In 2021/22, he had five goals and six assists in 40 games.
Mendes joined Sociedad from Celta Vigo in July of last year. The club spent €14 million ($19.9 million) on Mendes. In his first season at Sociedad, Mendes scored 11 goals and provided eight assists in 47 games last season. In the first half of the season, he was the ace of the team with 10 goals and seven assists, but he struggled in the second half with just one goal and one assist. 메이저사이트
This season, Mendes has rebounded with five goals and five assists in 14 games. According to global transfer market site Transfer Market, Mendes has a market value of €30 million ($42.8 billion). Tottenham is one of the clubs that have shown interest in Mendes.
Tottenham’s situation explains why they want Mendes. Spurs have a great resource in James Maddison in attacking midfield, but they don’t have a backup behind him. On the flanks, the performances of the likes of Christian Bale and Dejan Kulicepski are not entirely satisfactory. Manor Solomon and Ivan Perisic have been sidelined with injuries.
The start of the 2023/24 season is looking good for Tottenham. Spurs are on a 10-match unbeaten run in the league (8 wins, 2 draws). They also won 2-1 at Fulham on Aug. 28. Currently in first place in the league, Spurs will need to strengthen their squad in next winter’s transfer window to remain competitive at the top of the table. It will be interesting to see if Spurs can land Mendes.
