Kim strong in England, takes on DP World Tour challenge…McIlroy-Ram to face off

Kim Joo-hyung (21) is headed to the ‘promised land’ of England.

Kim will compete in the DP World Tour’s BMW PGA Championship ($9 million purse) at Wentworth Golf Club (Par 72) in Surrey, England, for four days beginning Thursday (July 14).

Kim will tee off on the first hole at 4:50 p.m. in Group 13 with Adam Scott (AUS) and Billy Horschel (USA). He is scheduled to play through next week’s Cajun Open de France.

The BMW PGA Championship is the fourth stop on the DP World Tour’s Rolex Series. The Rolex Series is the DP World Tour’s equivalent of a major championship 메이저놀이터.

The inaugural Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship was won by Victor Perez (FRA), while the second and third events, the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and Genesis Scottish Open, were won by Rory McIlroy (NI).

World No. 18 Kim’s first DP World Tour event outside of a major was the Commercial Bank Katar Masters in 2022. He was ranked outside the top 100 at the time and finished third at the Genesis Scottish Open that year.

This year, Kim tied for sixth at the Scottish Open, which was also a pre-Open event. “I’m happy with my performance this year, winning on the PGA Tour and finishing in the top 10 in two majors, and I want to finish strong in Europe,” he said.

Kim has been strong in England. Not only did he finish second at the Scottish Open for the second year in a row, but he also finished runner-up at this year’s DeOpen Championships despite suffering an ankle injury.

In addition to Kim, the tournament will feature a full complement of Ryder Cup Europe players, including McIlroy, John Rahm (Spain), Tommy Fleetwood (England) and Seb Straka (Austria). South Korea’s Jung Hoon Wang, 28, is also in the field.

The first round of the DP World Tour BMW PGA Championship will be broadcast live on SPOTV Golf&Health from 8pm on Thursday and will also be available on OTT service SPOTV NOW.
