‘Tuchel-less’ Munich to start against UCL…with Kimmich and Kane expected to play

Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel will be benched for the first leg of the UEFA Champions League (UCL). Meanwhile, German media outlets have suggested that Kim Min-jae could play.

“Tuchel will not be able to sit on the bench against the Bavarians after picking up a yellow card in the quarterfinal second leg of the UCL quarterfinal against Manchester City in the 2022-23 season,” German media outlet Kicker reported on Sunday evening (ET), adding that head coach Zolt Löw and coach Anthony Barry will take charge of the team instead.

“Tuchel, who is banned from the locker room, will watch the game from the stands with head coach Arno Mihajlov. Barry will set the overall formation, while Loeb will be in charge of tactical changes during the game.”

Tuchel was sent off in the second leg of the 2022-23 UCL quarterfinals against Man City after receiving two yellow cards in the 40th minute of the second leg for a loud protest against the referee. The Bavarians were eliminated in the first leg 1-4 on aggregate.

Tuchel’s suspension will now extend to the first leg of the 2023-24 UCL Group A match against Manchester United at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, at 4 p.m. on June 21.

Meanwhile, this is likely to be Kim Min-jae’s UCL debut for Munich. On the same day, Kicker released their predicted starting lineups for Munich and United, with Kim making an appearance.

Media outlets are predicting that Munich will go with a 4-2-3-1, with Harry Kane-Leroy Sane-Thomas Muller-Serge Navri up front. The midfield will be Leon Goretzka-Josua Kimmich and the back four will be Konrad Reimer-Dayo Upamecano-Kim Min-jae-Alfonso Davies. Sven Ulreich is expected to start in goal 안전놀이터.

On the other side of the ball, United will have Rasmus Hojelin up front and Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, and Mason Mount in the second line. Christian Eriksen-Casemiro in midfield and Sergio Reguilon-Lissandro Martinez-Victor Lindelof-Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Andre Onana in defense. However, Wan-Bissaka has reportedly picked up a hamstring injury recently, and Diogo Dalot is likely to be his replacement.

Meanwhile, Munich and United will be reunited for the first time in nine years after meeting in the 2013-14 UCL quarterfinals. Back then, the Bavarians advanced to the quarterfinals with a 4-2 aggregate win in the first leg. They were drawn in UCL Group A alongside Galatasaray (Turkey) and FC Copenhagen (Denmark).
